Don't Be Yourself

I wonder how many people are going to bash this blog post based on the title alone. It's the world we live in -- people make assumptions about an idea without really understanding it. I'm here to tell you that one of the most overused pieces of advice that people throw around is an utter waste of your time. "Be yourself" is the advice that has failed millions of people and will fail millions more until the people receiving the advice and the people giving the advice understand what it truly means to "be yourself." Because like I said, people make assumptions about ideas without fully understanding the concept -- and that is where the problem arises.

To be clear, I'm not telling you don't be yourself, despite what the title of this blog says. I'm telling you to be your TRUE self, not a shell of yourself.

Society's biggest fear in being its true self is how others in society will perceive them. Do you really want to live a life faking who you are, being a shell of yourself just to impress others? A life lived like that is a life wasted. If you have dreams that you want to achieve, you must be willing to break out of your shell and share with the world the true you.

Sometimes it may take some guidance to become who you truly are, but within us we all have the potential to be so much more. If you want to succeed at the "Dream. Conquer. Achieve. Repeat." path you must be able to be your true self.

If I get into a business with someone, I want to know the person I'm getting into business with. And if later I find out the person was being fake with me, and trying to impress me by not being their honest self -- they will lose my business. The same applies to friendships and girlfriends. I want the real person, not a false representation.

So don't be a version of yourself defined by your fears, instead be your true self!
